In autumn 2021 the media in the West – similarly to communist media – joined the state apparatus in managing if not openly oppressing humanist values such as the anti-war feeling. The implication of that was the pseudo autonomy which assured ‘media independence’ for many, crushed abruptly and in open sight with no debate.
Many like to think power corrupts from top, down, the reality being the corruption of war was met half-way by the eager many who passed and still aim to pass as ‘competent professionals’. What some of us saw, witnessed and were exposed to, was never spoken of openly or plainly, but it was there and affected everybody to a degree since and today's war in Ukraine is no different.
