monologue: The Abyss Staring

Standing staring at the phone :

They say: If you stare long enough into the abyss will stare back at you … I have been trying this for ages as a kinda of a game, to get an answer…

Puts the phone away and takes the audience in:

Lately, the same answer keeps popping over and over in my mind: Whatever you are running from always catches up with you (beat) in the end! …

Have you heard that one before? Did you believe it? ….

I was always more of a: ‘change your perspective change your country’ kind of guy … so no I’ve never believed that: whatever you are running from it always caught up with you …. in the end! …

Sitting down:

But for the sake of argument if I am to believe it for a moment, then what could it mean?…

Are we always running out of luck …eventually … and something bad catches up with us?? Whatever that may be…

Or, are we running away from ourselves in fact and eventually who we don’t want to be or become catches up with us??…

Never the less I remember the pleasure of running away, the joy when new perspectives opened in front of me, existed!

With emphasis:

And I, I consumed them and was consumed by them … Was that all an illusion?…

NOW as it stands, there appears to be no place to run to, to hide from hate …and no sanctuary is given…

As it is, DEATH always finds you unprepared and always catches up with you …
